Location in brief:
Lake Hawea is a small township of about 400 permanent residents though the population swells considerably during holiday periods. It is located at the south end of Lake Hawea , on the Wanaka/Haast highway (SH6), 15 minutes from Wanaka. Queenstown is just 1½ hours away.

There are many adventure activities such as jet boating, hang gliding, rock climbing etc in the area.

Boating
Boating is popular on local lakes and rivers. There are several boat ramps around the lakes.
Fishing
Lake Hawea is well known for its fishing. Lake Wanaka and numerous other rivers and streams also offering fine fishing opportunities.
Gliding
Omarama, world renowned gliding centre, is just 1½ hours away
Golf
There are several courses in the area including Lake Hawea (an interesting 9 hole course), Wanaka with its spectacular views of the lake and mountains and Tarras, a country course where you have to beware of stock!
Horse Trekking
Horse trekking is available in the picturesque Lake Wanaka area.
Lawn bowls
The township has a lawn bowls club where visitors are welcome

Skiing
Treble Cone Ski Field, Cardrona Ski Field & Snow Park NZ are just an hour away whilst Coronet Peak and the Remarkables are 1½ hours.
